2010 Winter Olympics

Team USA leads medal standings after opening weekend

The Winter Olympics is an important event that happens every two years. It's opening weekend was this past weekend and so far the U.S. is looking pretty good. Unfortunately, there was a tragic death that occurred right before the games started so the opening ceremony was dedicated to this man whose name is Kumaritashvili. All the countries are competing for excellence. As of today, the U.S. has gotten one gold medal, one silver, and three bronze medals.

C. Post- Super Bowl

The Saints? or the Colts? The Super Bowl turned out to be a great, successful game! It's such a significant event and brings so many different people together to celebrate. Football always has the most fans and the most entertainment. In the past years, I've never had to do an assignment on the Super Bowl before, or study it at all, but I noticed a lot of things that I wouldn't have if I was just watching it for the game. Like how the commercials and ads pertain to guys wants, and also how the commercials are meant to be hilarious because they know that half the world is watching and they can represent their product in an entertaining way. A lot of hard work is put into the Super Bowl, trying to make it the best spectacular event of the season, and it always is! It keeps people wanting to watch more, and there's never a dull moment. I'm going to use the comparision of The Super Bowl to The Movie Awards. They both bring millions of people together to watch, and both have special events going on during the show. They also both involve important people. Each has a special meaning but in a different way. In a way, the Super Bowl is an extremely historic event that binds us all together. :)

B. During Super Bowl

I watched the first half, halftime, and some of the second half of the Super Bowl. The main thing that caught my eye, like many other people, was the commercials. The advertisements were mostly funny and some were informational. In the time that I watched the game, I saw at least five different Bud-Light commercials. They were all pretty interesting to me, and my favorite that I got to see was probably the very first one, where the house was made up of full Bud-Lights. There was a snickers commercial with Betty White that also caught my attention because it was amusing as well. Out of all the commercials I saw, my most favorite would have to be the Doritos one with the little boy who slaps the guy in the face and says "Keep your hands off my momma keep your hands off my Doritos." It's one of those that everyone is going to be talking about the next day, and when I got on Facebook, people were already stating the words! I noticed how many of the commercials are based for a man's perspective. For example, besides all the Bud-Light commercials, there was a Dove for men commercial. Even though women do watch the Super Bowl, you could say a majority of the fans are men and perhaps that is why so many of the commercials are for men. Drinks, movies, and cars were the superiority of commercials for the Super Bowl. Aside the commercials, the announcers mainly talked about both teams and the specific plays. They also talk about individual mistakes and how they can improve. At the end of the first half, one of the commentators said, " So much for a high scoring game." During the halftime report they discussed the highlights of the game so far, and how the Colts were doing well. They also kept talking about "the ankle" which is referring to Dwight Freeney. He didn't seem to have a problem with it because he was doing great and they were wondering if he'd keep it up in the second half. The half time show included a band and singing. There were fireworks and neon lights that made the show awesome. I got to watch the very end of the game, and GO SAINTS!!:)

A. Pre-Super Bowl

1. Commercials
The Super Bowl brings huge masses of advertising revenue each year for the NFL.
Commercials are a major topic when talking about the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is best known for its interesting commercials. Everyone is always looking forward to watching them to determine whether or not they are the best, worst, or funniest. Companies pay a bundle of money just to put out a commercial because they know that a majority of the world is watching.
Some Super Bowl facts:
· 3 million for each commercial
· 50% of viewers who watch the Super Bowl only do so for the commercials
· Fans take bathroom breaks DURING the game, not during the commercials

2. Media
The Media plays an important role when it comes to the Super Bowl. From television, newspapers, and magazines; everyone is fully involved before and after the big game. The media is everywhere, every day, trying to get the 411 on both the Colts and the Saints. They can take pictures, or even interview players. The media would do anything just to find out the scoop of the football players and what they're doing to prepare for the Super Bowl. Headlines have been going out in the past few weeks talking about the Super Bowl and what there is to expect.

3. Parties
Parties are another essential part of the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl brings family and friends together to celebrate this important day. Even people who never really watch football, choose parties or make plans to watch the Super Bowl. Tons and tons of parties go on for the Super Bowl, even if it is on Sunday! It goes to show how meaningful the Super Bowl really is for everyone. You can either be a die-hard sports fan or just be ambitious to watch the commercials; it definitly brings people together to celebrate. People hosting these parties come up with different themes and ideas to honor the Super Bowl.
