GUEST SPEAKER-Bob Pearson

Yesterday we had another Guest Speaker. His name was Bob Pearson and he is for sure my favorite one so far. He works at Berry College where he advises students, teaches sport classes everyday, and supervises coaches. He had the pleasure of working with Dr. Epling at Berry. He explained about life and his outlook on it and it was very fun and interesting to listen to. He gave us a list of quotes and briefly explained them to us . Everything he said was so true and it really opened my eyes. One of the things that caught my attention the most was the 10/90 principle. 10 % of people will take 90% of your time. And we also learned a new term, Lagniappe. It means you always do more than what is expected. I hope he gets to come back again because I really enjoyed his speech!

INTERNSHIP/CAREER(11-15)

We had our third set of career/internships to do. The five that I found were all of interest to me and I'm excited to see what the future holds. The first one that I chose was a Health and Fitness Specialist. This job consists of promoting local health and fitness. It's location is New York which is pretty awesome. This job seems interesting and would be a great opportunity for me. The second one I chose was a Life Skills Coach. This job would help me to maybe one day be a head coach which are my plans for now. The job summary is maintaining individual's physical and emotional health and developing independent living skills. The third one is being an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The purpose of this job is to deal with prevention and care along with the rehabilitation of athletes. Athletic Training has always been appealing to me. My fourth job I chose is an Assistant Strength Conditioning Coach. This perhaps could be an internship opportunity for me. I would instruct and supervise conditioning workouts which is something I'm really into. My last one is a Business Coach/Cosultant. It deals with private coaching lessons and consulting projects to small and medium businesses. All of these seem like they would be fun and teach me a lot!

GUEST SPEAKER-BILL POPP

We had another guest speaker for our Sports Administration class. It was someone who we were all familiar with and his name is Bill Popp, and to some Coach Popp. He is the head baseball coach and Athletic Director here at Reinhardt University. He explained to us how he went to West Georgis and played three years of baseball. His last year he chose to volunteer coach there which opened many opportunites for him. He got his bachelor's degree there and eventually ended up at Oglethorpe where he was the head coach for 11 straight years. In 2004 he decided to come to Reinhardt College. The second year he was here they formed a baseball team and he's been the head coach ever since. He got into detail about how there are 290 schools in the NAIA and there's 25 different conferences. We have 15 sports at Reinhardt(8 women, 7 men). There are five core values that include: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servent leadership. I really enjoyed him coming to talk to us!

Career/ Internships

For our second set of career/ internships we had to do five. My first choice had to do with Pro Sports Communications. The job of this is to make sales calls and assist with media. I've always wanted to work in Professional Sports so this one would have to be my favorite. My second choice was a Fitness Manager. This would probably be a beginner job or perhaps an internship. You would hire, develop, and supervise the personal training staff. My third choice was interning with sports medicine. You would provide administrative support to the sports medicine programs and also be involved with event managing. This seems like a very interesting internship. My fourth choice was a ticket sales manager. My job would be to create and develop new business accounts, planning and coordinating group events, and manage personal accounts. The fifth choice I had was an Assistant Director. I'd develop business and educational opportunities. You have to have a Master's for this one.

Grad Assistantship

We had to find five potential graduate schools with sport-related degree programs of interest. The first one that I chose was working with Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University. They are responsible for supervision and coordination of the Recreational Sports and Services. It works with the intramural sports and is a minimum of 20 hours per week. My second choice was working with Track and Field at Missouri. You would help the head coach and help the team out any way possible. I did track in High School and I thought this would be a neat experience. My third choice had to do with recreation at Slippery Rock Institution. This seems to be right up my alley. They work with sport clubs and weekly outdoor adventure programs. My fourth choice was again grad assisting in intramural sports at East Carolina University. Some things that I would be doing is organizing, supervising, and scheduling events. My last choice was working with Recreation at Oakland University. It seems like it would be fun working here.
